Detroit Lakes, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – A man from Ada, Minnesota, is facing felony check forgery charges after allegedly using a deceased individual’s checking account to purchase more than $4,200 in merchandise from L&M Fleet Supply.
According to a complaint filed in Becker County District Court, Joseph Emmit Primeau (DOB: 01/08/1979) passed a check on June 7, 2024, under the name of a person who had died just four days earlier. Surveillance footage reportedly shows Primeau handing the check to a cashier, refusing to show ID, and providing a fake license number and phone number before leaving the store on an ATV, which was part of the transaction.
The check bounced due to the account being closed, and police confirmed the named account holder had passed away on June 3, 2024. Primeau was identified through a separate ATV-related incident on the same day.
If convicted, Primeau faces up to 10 years in prison and/or a $20,000 fine for felony check forgery.
