Becker County, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — A Fargo man is facing multiple charges in Becker County District Court following an alleged assault at Walmart in Detroit Lakes and a subsequent high-speed police pursuit.

Jonathan Lee Kinney, 45, has been charged with felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle and misdemeanor fifth-degree assault.

According to court records, on June 10 at approximately 7:34 a.m., Detroit Lakes police responded to a report of an assault inside Walmart. Surveillance footage allegedly showed Kinney grabbing a woman by her sweatshirt and pushing her against a wall. The two were known to each other.

Kinney then reportedly left the store in a black Lexus with dealer plates. About 10 minutes later, the same vehicle returned to the Walmart lot. As an officer approached near the grocery entrance, Kinney allegedly accelerated past him and fled the scene.

The officer pursued the vehicle onto Highway 10, reaching speeds of up to 105 miles per hour, but was unable to keep up. The Lexus was last seen passing through Audubon and heading north. Kinney was later identified as the driver through an investigation by Detroit Lakes Police.

At the time of this incident, Kinney had an active felony warrant in North Dakota for possession of drug paraphernalia after failing to appear in court on May 1, 2024.

He also has pending charges in Clay County, Minnesota, including fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle and possession of a firearm or ammunition after being convicted of a crime of violence. He missed a court hearing in those cases on June 9, but no warrant was issued.

In this latest incident, a warrant for Kinney’s arrest was issued by Becker County District Court on July 3.
