Becker County (trfnews.i234.me) – TRF News has learned that a Barnesville man is facing several felony charges following a violent confrontation in rural Detroit Lakes. Court documents identify the suspect as Brett A. Anderson.

According to the statement of probable cause, the incident occurred on September 17 at 9:45 p.m. when Becker County deputies responded to a call near a minimum maintenance road and County Highway 22. Dispatch reported an open line call where a woman pleaded for help and said a man was trying to kill her.

When deputies arrived, they found Anderson entering a white Mercedes-Benz. Another vehicle was located nearby with an adult female crying near the driver’s side door. The victim told deputies her car had broken down and she had called Anderson, with whom she had a past romantic relationship. She stated that Anderson began arguing with her, then attempted to pry open her locked car door using a hammer and a pry bar while threatening to hurt and kill her.

The victim said she was terrified and reported past abuse from Anderson. Deputies observed pry marks and damage to her vehicle. During the investigation, law enforcement also discovered more than 100 grams of suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and brass knuckles.

Anderson is now facing four felony charges: threats of violence with a dangerous weapon, felony domestic assault, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of brass knuckles. The case is proceeding in Becker County District Court.

Officials remind the public that domestic violence and drug-related crimes remain significant concerns in Minnesota communities. For resources, visit the National Domestic Violence Hotline.
