Thief River Falls (trfnews.i234.me) — On the morning of May 29, 2025, residents of Thief River Falls were surprised to see a black bear wandering through the downtown area. The bear eventually climbed a tree near Epiphany Station Church on Main Avenue.
Local authorities, including the Thief River Falls Police Department, Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol, and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), responded promptly. With assistance from local veterinarians and businesses, they worked together to ensure the bear’s safety.
Officers placed mats on the ground beneath the tree, and after tranquilizing the bear, it fell onto the mats. Despite the tranquilizers, the bear managed to move to a neighboring yard before passing out. Veterinarians examined the bear, and the DNR transported it to a safe location in the back of a DNR truck.
