Barnesville I-94 Jackknifed Semi In Snowstorm

Barnesville (trfnews.i234.me) — Troopers are busy on western and central Minnesota roads this afternoon. Snow and ice are causing crashes and spinouts across the region.

Troopers Report Multiple Crashes And Spinouts

According to early information, troopers are handling several incidents on major highways. Many calls involve vehicles that have lost control on slick pavement.

Spinouts are being reported on stretches of interstate and rural highways. Some vehicles have slid into ditches or the median. Others have blocked lanes for short periods.

Most crashes appear to be property damage crashes only. Early reports do not list serious injuries. Troopers still urge drivers to slow down and leave space.

Jackknifed Semi East Of Barnesville

One notable incident involved a jackknifed semi on the Interstate 94 east of Barnesville. The report time was about 1:40 p.m. on December 9.

A photo from the scene shows the semi blocking part of the roadway. Troopers said there were no injuries in that crash.

Roads in the photo appear fully covered with snow and ice.
Visibility is also reduced by falling or blowing snow.

Drivers in the area have reported sudden slick spots.
Conditions can change quickly when bands of snow move through.

Roads, Snow, and Ice-Covered Across Region

Troopers say roads in parts of western and central Minnesota are “obviously slippery.” Many stretches are completely covered with packed snow and ice.

Officials remind drivers that even slow turns can cause a skid.
Extra stopping distance is needed on hills and ramps.

Travelers are urged to check current road reports before they leave. Minnesota 511 provides updated road conditions and closure information.

Drivers can view that system at the Minnesota 511 website.

Forecast details for snow and wind are available from the National Weather Service.

Winter Driving Safety Reminders

The Minnesota State Patrol urges drivers to slow down in bad weather. They also suggest turning on headlights and clearing all vehicle windows.

More winter driving advice is posted by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

Authorities say the safest choice in severe conditions is often to delay travel. Extra caution now may prevent serious crashes later in the storm.
