POLK COUNTY, MN (trfnews.i234.me) — A recently released autopsy report has confirmed that Lucas Gilbertson, 42, died from a gunshot wound to the chest during a warrant service on January 9. The report also documented additional gunshot wounds to his back and right buttock. Gilbertson was fatally shot by East Grand Forks Police Sgt. Aeisso Schrage. The incident occurred during a Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) investigation.

The full BCA investigative file, consisting of over 900 pages, as well as numerous photographs, videos, and audio recordings, was shared with the press on December 19. Information protected under privacy laws was redacted prior to the release.

Documents reveal that Sgt. Schrage entered the residence after hearing other officers pursuing Gilbertson inside. Schrage reported using a Taser, which missed Gilbertson. Schrage described Gilbertson as pointing a firearm during the confrontation. When Gilbertson retreated, he allegedly threw the firearm out of a window before advancing again toward officers. Schrage then fired his weapon, hitting Gilbertson.

Evidence collected includes projectiles recovered during the autopsy and details about the weapon used by Sgt. Schrage. Only two undercover officers, including Schrage, were present during the shooting, neither of whom were wearing body cameras.
