Ambush in Minneapolis: Officer, Shooter, and Bystander Dead

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Investigators report that 28-year-old Minneapolis Police Officer Jamal Mitchell was fatally shot Thursday evening in what they are describing as an ambush. Officer Mitchell was responding to a call about two people shot inside an apartment when he was killed while providing medical assistance. The suspected shooter and another person were also found dead. Additionally, a second officer, a firefighter, a bystander, and another individual were wounded in the gunfire.

Minnesota BCA Superintendent Drew Evans stated that one of the people Officer Mitchell was aiding turned out to be the shooter. A bystander was critically injured, while the second officer and the firefighter sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Mayor Jacob Frey called it a devastating day for Minneapolis, mourning the loss of a hero. Flags are flying at half-staff on all state buildings in Minnesota until sunset today to honor Officer Jamal Mitchell. Governor Tim Walz encouraged businesses, organizations, and residents to lower their flags in tribute to Officer Mitchell’s ultimate sacrifice in protecting his community.
