Akeley, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) – A 17-year-old from Illinois is now facing a mountain of felony and misdemeanor charges in Hubbard County after a chaotic multi-state saga involving a stolen U-Haul truck, camper, and a string of violent threats and abuse.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Hubbard County District Court, law enforcement responded to a welfare check in Akeley on July 3, 2025, after a Colorado woman reported receiving a chilling text from her daughter claiming that her boyfriend, Michael Alan Stevens, was trying to kill her.
Deputies located a stolen U-Haul and camper near 375 Graceson Ave South. Stevens was found inside the camper with the victim, who appeared distressed. She later revealed that Stevens bit her, threatened her with brass knuckles (which deputies found), and had physically assaulted her during their time together.
The U-Haul had been reported stolen out of Illinois, and the camper, valued at over $26,000, was confirmed stolen from an RV dealership in Wyoming. Stevens admitted to making the threatening call to the victim’s mother, saying he was “just joking.”
He now faces five charges, including:
-
Two counts of Receiving Stolen Property (Felony)
-
Threats of Violence (Felony)
-
Domestic Assault (Misdemeanor)
-
Possession of Dangerous Weapons – Brass Knuckles (Misdemeanor)
The defendant remains in custody, and a report warns he may continue criminal activity if released.
