A Couple of Citizens Assist in Apprehending Burglary Suspects

A pair of male juveniles are currently held in the Grand Forks Detention Center following an attempted burglary at Grandma Butterwick’s on South Washington Street. At approximately 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, the suspects pried open the door of the establishment, triggering an alarm. They immediately fled the scene.

Sergeant Drees of the Grand Forks Police Department reported that a group of citizens having a bonfire a block or two away assisted in the pursuit. As an officer chased one of the juveniles, a couple from the bonfire group helped the officer apprehend the suspect. The second juvenile, seeing the police presence, voluntarily approached the scene and surrendered. Both suspects were then taken into custody.
