Pennington County, MN (trfnews.i234.me)—On December 24 at 8:25 p.m., law enforcement conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Oakland Park Road and Greenwood Street in Thief River Falls. The driver, identified as 29-year-old Carlos Moller Sorto of Thief River Falls, was cited for fourth-degree driving while impaired (DWI) and subsequently arrested. The arrest followed observations that Moller Sorto’s vehicle had drifted to the right side of the road, nearly striking a curb.

In Minnesota, a fourth-degree DWI is classified as a misdemeanor offense. Penalties for this level of offense can include up to 90 days in jail and a fine of up to $1,000. Additionally, administrative penalties may involve a driver’s license revocation for 90 days, which can be reduced to 30 days for first-time offenders who plead guilty. These penalties are outlined under Minnesota Statute 169A.27.
