Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN (trfnews.i234.me)—In Hennepin County, Lue Chang, 32, from Brooklyn Park, received a 25.5-year prison sentence for second-degree murder committed during a family gathering in September 2024.

The incident occurred on September 21, 2024, at a residence on the 7500 block of Kentucky Avenue North during a birthday celebration. Court records indicate that Chang became upset over perceived disrespect from a relative. Witnesses reported that the argument escalated, leading Chang to retrieve a firearm from his vehicle and fatally shoot the victim, identified as a 45-year-old man, multiple times in front of family members, including children.

Brooklyn Park officers arrived shortly after the shooting and found the victim unresponsive. Despite life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

In November, Chang pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. Judge Tamara Garcia imposed the 25.5-year sentence, which includes a mandatory minimum incarceration of two-thirds of that term, approximately 17 years, before eligibility for supervised release. Additionally, Chang was ordered to provide a DNA sample and is permanently prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. He received credit for 87 days of time served.
