Becker County, MN (trfnews.i234.me) — Matthew Carl Burton Oftelie, 39, of Detroit Lakes, has been charged with felony second-degree criminal sexual contact and a gross misdemeanor for purchasing alcohol for a minor in Becker County District Court.
According to court records, a Detroit Lakes police officer responded to a report of sexual conduct shortly after midnight on April 30. The officer met with a girl under the age of 15 and her parents. The girl claimed Oftelie had bought liquor for her on the evening of April 29, which she consumed before becoming ill. After messaging Oftelie, he returned to her home, helped her clean up, and made inappropriate comments while massaging her feet and legs.
Oftelie was later seen on surveillance footage purchasing the alcohol, and the girl provided a blood alcohol sample of .08. On May 10, Oftelie admitted to rubbing the girl’s legs but denied inappropriate behavior. He later stated the comment was meant to remind them both to wait until the girl turned 18.
Oftelie was released on October 17, with conditions barring contact with the victim. His next court appearance is set for December 2.
