GRAND FORKS, N.D. (trfnews.i234.me) – A daycare provider in Grand Forks, Jarae Grad, 22, has been charged with felony child abuse. On Monday, Dec. 2, Grad waived her preliminary hearing and entered a not-guilty plea.
The incident, reported on Oct. 15 at Hopeful Beginnings daycare in the Grand Cities Mall, was captured on video by another employee. According to court documents, Grad was recorded engaging in what was described as excessive force while handling a child under the age of six.
The video allegedly shows Grad lifting and slamming the child to the ground. When questioned, Grad stated she acted out of frustration to stop the child from crying.
The daycare’s director, Sarah Schindler, was reportedly informed two days after the incident, and the child’s mother was notified on Oct. 18. An after-care report indicated the child experienced symptoms including irritability and fatigue.
Grad’s next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 27.
The daycare’s mission statement emphasizes a Christian environment focused on love and care.
