FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State wrestling dropped its home opener against Oregon State Friday night, falling 35-6 to the Beavers at the Scheels Center.
Gavin Drexler, ranked #32 in the country, started off the dual with a win for the Bison, defeating Victor Jacinto at 149 pounds. Drexler had a couple first period takedowns on his way to a 9-2 victory over Jacinto.
Oregon State would respond with a run of bonus point victories, winning the next three weight classes with a tech fall, pin and major decision to take a 15-3 lead. They would win seven-straight matches overall.
Kyle Burwick would pick up the other win for the Bison, as he claimed a 10-7 win over Damion Elliott in his return to North Dakota, making his Bison home debut. The Hettinger, N.D. native had a takedown in the first and then secured the win with a nearfall late in the third period.
North Dakota State will return to action Saturday with the Bison Open at the Scheels Center. Opening round matches are set to begin at 10 a.m.
