Michael Joseph Trudeau, age 87, passed away on October 31, 2024, at his home, in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. He was born on March 20, 1937 in Minneapolis, to Francis and Lillian Trudeau. He grew up in South Minneapolis where he went on many escapades with the neighborhood children and attended Annunciation Catholic School. Michael graduated from Washburn High School in Minneapolis, and furthered his education at Moorhead State University, earning an undergraduate degree. He later earned his Master’s degree from Winona State University. A veteran, Michael served in the Marines and the National Guard, bringing dedication and discipline to all aspects of his life.
He was committed to education, which was reflected in his long career as an Art Professor at Northland Community College in Thief River Falls, MN. Additionally, Michael imparted his love for sports by serving as an offensive line coach for a time at Northland.
Michael’s artistic talents were not confined to his professional life; he was also an avid painter, drawer, and enjoyed pottery and sculpting. Beyond his artistic pursuits, he was known for his intellectual curiosity and commitment to being physically fit. His love for nature was evident in his hobby of planting trees, enhancing his surroundings one sapling at a time. He also prided himself on being a small hobby farmer with numerous animals and prolific gardens.
Michael is survived by his loving children, Michael ‘Tony’ Trudeau, Christopher (Laura) Trudeau, Rhonda (Michael) Anderson, Brent Trudeau, Franco (Nickole) Trudeau, and Nicholas (Nikki) Trudeau. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Angela, Amber, Sydney, Amanda, Gabrielle, Christian, Caroline, Elizabeth, Gillian, Gabriel, Jade, Gavin, Braxton, Avery, Rayna, and Taylor; and great-grandchildren: Guinevere, Sonia, and Fern. He is also survived by his friend and companion Shurleen Adams. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Richard; sister-in-law, Rosemary Trudeau; and his friend and former wife, Vivian Linander.
Michael’s family would like to express their deep appreciation of the wonderful care he received from Hospice of Red River Valley.
There will be a visitation for Michael at 10:00 AM with a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN. A luncheon and burial will follow the ceremony.
