GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) — Jarae Arlouine Grad, a 22-year-old employee at HOPEful Beginnings Child Care Facility in Grand Forks, has been charged with Class B felony child abuse of a person under six years old. According to an affidavit filed in the case, Grad allegedly used excessive force on a young girl who was in her care.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 15th, and another employee reported it two days later to the director of HOPEful Beginnings. The reporting employee also turned over a video they had taken during the alleged abuse.
In the video, Grad is seen holding the child up high before slamming them into the ground with such force that their legs were thrown back and their lower torso struck the ground. The child was reportedly screaming and crying throughout the incident.
Grad allegedly claimed she did not have much memory of the event and it all “blurred together.” However, when given more detail by law enforcement, Grad stated she had been feeling frustrated and threw the child down to get them to stop crying.
Since the alleged abuse occurred, the young girl has reportedly started experiencing drainage from her right ear, was unusually irritable and fatigued, and had a decreased appetite. Grad’s initial court appearance took place on Monday, October 21st, during which probable cause for her arrest was established due to the lack of a warrant.
Grad posted bond and was released after her appearance. Her preliminary hearing and/or arraignment is scheduled for December 2nd at 9:00 AM.
