FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) – In a shocking turn of events, a man has been sentenced to 30 days in jail and 5 years probation for burglarizing a laundromat in Minnesota. The sentencing took place on Monday, October 14, at Otter Tail County Court.

According to court documents, Jacob Alley, a 46-year-old resident of Fergus Falls, was identified as the suspect who broke into Syn Laundry in July 2023 and stole $1,742 from a coin machine. The burglary also caused an additional $5,477 in damage.

The owner of the laundromat showed surveillance footage to officers, which revealed a white male wearing tan or khaki-colored pants, a black long sleeve shirt, dark colored boots, gloves, and facemask entering the premises and walking over to the coin machine. The suspect used a prybar and an inflatable vehicle door wedge to open up the locked door of the machine and remove the bill canister and change.

Officers received a tip that identified Alley as the suspect, who had multiple similar features to the individual on the surveillance footage. However, when contacted by officers, Alley denied being involved in the burglary. Later, a search warrant was obtained for his home and vehicles, where police found a pair of black and red gloves matching those worn during the theft and what appeared to be a burglary tool set.

As part of a plea deal, Alley pleaded guilty to the theft and will also pay $2,213 in restitution.
