ST. PAUL — Deadly Weekend in St. Paul: Two Violent Deaths, 22nd Homicide of the Year

A second violent death has shaken St. Paul over the weekend, with a man being shot on Saturday night and another victim stabbed earlier that day.

The shooting occurred shortly before 10 p.m. near Woodbridge Street and Wheelock Parkway when police responded to reports of gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, officers found a man lying on the ground with multiple gunshot injuries. Despite first aid provided by responding officers, St. Paul fire medics arrived to take him to Regions Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

This tragic event marks the 22nd homicide of 2024 for the city, according to records kept by the St. Paul Police Department. Notably, this number is lower than last year’s count at this time, which stood at 27 homicides as of then. The department attributes this difference in part because one case was investigated by Metro Transit Police.

In another violent incident over the weekend, a man was stabbed around 5:30 p.m. on Friday inside a Lowertown gas station parking lot following an altercation between two men within the establishment. Investigations are ongoing for both incidents to determine their causes and perpetrators.
