Moorhead Man Sentenced in Threats of Violence Case
Moorhead (trfnews.i234.me) — Darin Allen Borseth, 38, has been sentenced for felony threats of violence.
The Moorhead man was sentenced in Otter Tail County District Court.
The case stems from an April 5, 2025, incident near Erhard.
A second-degree assault charge and a domestic assault charge were dismissed under a plea agreement.
Woman Sought Help at Rural Home
Court records say authorities received a call at about 9:31 p.m.
A resident reported that a distraught woman had arrived at her rural Erhard home.
The woman said Borseth, her boyfriend, had assaulted her.
Records say the couple lived in Moorhead.
They were staying at a lake property owned by Borseth’s family.
The woman said they had been dating for about 11 months.
She told investigators that Borseth became upset and returned carrying a stick.
She alleged Borseth questioned her and struck her legs when he disliked her answers.
Threat Alleged During Drive
The woman said Borseth wanted to leave because neighbors might hear her.
She entered the passenger seat while Borseth drove toward Moorhead, records say.
The woman alleged Borseth struck her side and head while driving.
She also alleged he turned onto a gravel road and threatened to kill her.
The woman said she jumped from the moving vehicle.
She estimated the vehicle was traveling between 10 and 15 mph.
She then ran to a nearby residence for help.
Borseth Arrested North of Fergus Falls
Authorities later located Borseth’s vehicle north of Fergus Falls.
Court records say investigators learned his driver’s license was revoked.
Borseth was arrested after the traffic stop.
A search found a stick and a purse near the passenger area.
The woman’s identification was inside the purse, according to court documents.
Records also describe drug paraphernalia and small bags containing suspected methamphetamine residue.
The substance reportedly tested positive for methamphetamine during a field test.
Five Years of Supervised Probation
On August 3, Borseth received a one-year prison sentence that was stayed for five years.
He was ordered to serve 60 days in the Otter Tail County Jail.
Borseth received credit for 60 days already served.
He was also ordered to pay a $50 fine and $160 in court fees.
Borseth must avoid alcohol and illegal drugs while under supervision.
He must also complete a comprehensive assessment and a domestic abuse evaluation.
He was placed on supervised probation for five years.
Borseth entered an Alford plea on March 26.
An Alford plea allows a defendant to maintain innocence while accepting that prosecutors have enough evidence for conviction.
