Cass Lake Man Faces Felony Firearm Charge

Cass Lake (trfnews.i234.me) — Alexander Hart faces a felony firearm charge in Beltrami County.

The charge followed an early morning investigation near Allens Bay.

The complaint charges Hart with firearm possession after a conviction for a crime of violence.

The alleged offense occurred September 11, 2026.

The complaint lists a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.

It also lists a $30,000 fine and a five-year mandatory minimum.

Shots Reported Near Allens Bay

According to the complaint, officers were dispatched around 5:09 a.m. after a report of gunshots.

A caller reported seeing three people walking toward a park while shots were being fired.

Officers later found four people walking near Kappes Lane and Luomas Lane.

They included Hart, Keirra White, Anjessa Clark, and Kyle Lovelace.

Daniel Wind then came from a nearby wooded area, according to the complaint.

Officers told the group they were investigating a reported disturbance.

Hart and White said they were looking for transportation to the Mission area.

The complaint says officers searched Hart for weapons.

No weapon was found on him during that search.

Loaded Handgun Found In Bag

Police then searched a small black bag carried by White, the complaint states.

Officers reported feeling what appeared to be a handgun inside.

The bag contained a Springfield Armory XD 9mm handgun, according to the complaint.

Police reported finding a live round in the chamber.

A .45-caliber round also was found inside the bag, the complaint states.

White later gave a statement after receiving a Miranda warning.

She allegedly told investigators that Hart gave her the firearm.

White denied firing the gun, according to the complaint.

She also said her fingerprints would be on the weapon.

Hart also gave a Mirandized statement.

The complaint says he denied possessing the firearm.

Prior Conviction Cited In Charge

Prosecutors say Hart cannot legally possess firearms because of a prior crime-of-violence conviction.

The complaint identifies a 2021 first-degree drug possession conviction as the disqualifying offense.

The complaint also says Hart was subject to conditional release in other pending cases.

His conditions included remaining law-abiding and not possessing firearms.

Those pending cases are separate matters.

Pending charges do not establish guilt.

Case Filed In Beltrami County

Hart is charged under Minnesota Statute 609.165.

The complaint also cites Minnesota’s firearm sentencing law.

The case is filed as 04-CR-26-2186 in Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District.

Hart is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
