Moorhead (trfnews.i234.me) — A Moorhead man faces attempted murder charges following a Sept. 1 shooting.

Daniel Owen Garbow, 39, was formally charged in Clay County District Court.

Garbow faces one count of second-degree attempted murder.

He also faces one count of gross misdemeanor domestic assault.

Court documents said Garbow had not been arrested when the charges were filed.

Man Found With Gunshot Wound

The shooting was reported shortly before 8 p.m. Sept. 1 in south Moorhead.

Police responded to an apartment building in the 500 block of 30th Avenue South.

Officers found an adult man outside with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

The man was conscious when officers arrived, according to the criminal complaint.

He was taken to a local hospital with a serious injury.

Police later said his condition was stable.

More information is available through the Moorhead Police Department.

Complaint Describes Dispute Before Shooting

A woman at the apartment identified Garbow as her boyfriend, according to the complaint.

She told investigators Garbow had assaulted her shortly before the shooting.

Police reported seeing injuries on the woman’s face.

The complaint says a verbal dispute then developed between Garbow and the shooting victim.

The confrontation became physical inside the apartment, according to investigators.

The woman reported hearing what she believed was a gunshot.

She then heard the victim say he had been shot.

The victim later told investigators he did not know the man who shot him.

He said he intervened during an altercation involving a woman.

The victim said the other man reached toward a pocket during their confrontation.

He believed the man could be reaching for a knife, according to the complaint.

The victim swung toward the man’s hand before being shot once in the stomach.

Investigators Search Apartment

Investigators later executed a search warrant at the apartment.

Police recovered a shell casing from inside the residence, according to the complaint.

A vehicle believed to belong to Garbow was found in Fargo early Sept. 2.

Garbow was not with the vehicle.

Investigators believed he may have traveled into North Dakota.

Court records also list a 2016 gross misdemeanor domestic assault conviction for Garbow.

A judge signed an arrest warrant for Garbow on Sept. 8.

Police have advised the public not to approach Garbow.

Authorities said he should be considered potentially armed.

Anyone who sees him should call 911 immediately.
