Danielson Selected by Texas Rangers in MLB Draft

FARGO, N.D. – Right-handed pitcher Joey Danielson has been selected by the Texas Rangers with the 525th pick in the 17th round of the 2024 MLB Draft on Tuesday afternoon.

Danielson appeared in 62 games over five seasons on the mound for NDSU. His 62 appearances ranked tied for eighth all-time in NDSU history. He totaled 12 saves over that span, which is positioned tied for sixth all-time in Bison history. Danielson registered 93 total strikeouts over 89.0 innings in his career and registered a 5.97 ERA.

Danielson posted a career-best 11 saves last season, which was the third-most in a single-season in NDSU history. His 11 saves also led the Summit League and ranked sixth in the nation. The Eden Prairie, Minn., native tossed a career-high 39 strikeouts over 39.0 innings of relief work on the mound to go along with a 4.85 ERA last season.

Danielson becomes the 14th NDSU player selected in the MLB Draft dating back to 1968 when John Renhowe was picked in the 28th round by the Oakland Athletics. It also marks the second straight season NDSU has had a current pitcher selected in the draft after Cade Feeney was picked by the Boston Red Sox in the 13th round of the MLB Draft last year. Since 2013, the Bison have had eight current or incoming players picked in the MLB Draft.
