NDSU Men’s Golf Third After Day One at Doc Gimmler


FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – North Dakota State men’s golf opened up the Doc Gimmler Red & Black on Monday with rounds of 281 and 277 to sit in third place after 36 holes on the Bethpage State Park-Red Course.
 
Rylin Petry led the way for the Bison on day one, as he shot rounds of 70 and 68 on the par-70 course. Petry had four birdies in each round and climbed the leaderboard in the second round to sit in a tie for ninth overall in the 69-golfer field.
 
After round one, Josh Galvin led the way for the Bison following a 68, which included four birdies. In the second round, Galvin added three more birdies as he shot a 71 to wrap the day at -1 in a tie for 13th.
 
Sean Moore, who also had seven birdies on the day, sits third overall for the Bison after a 70 and 71, as he sits at +1 in a tie for 19th.
 
Jake Skarperud had the best round of the day for NDSU as he shot a 67 in the second round. Skarperud had three birdies in each round, but after a 76 in the first round, Skarperud went bogey-free in round two, climbing into a tie for 29th at +3.
 
Ian Simonich wrapped up the day for the Bison, posting a 73 and 71 to sit at +4 and in a tie for 34th.
 
North Dakota State sits four shots behind Columbia (-6) headed to the final round. Harvard sits second at (-3), one shot ahead of the Bison and Long Island (-2). Connecticut rounds out the top five at -1.
 
The Bison will wrap up the two-day event on Tuesday, playing the third and final round, which will take place on the world-famous Bethpage State Park-Black Course. The Bison are set to tee off at 8:09 a.m. CT.
