Former Ramsey County Deputy Avoids Felony, Sentenced for Misusing Public Funds

DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (trfnews.i234.me) – Former Ramsey County Sheriff’s Deputy Benjamin Myrum, of Devils Lake, North Dakota, has pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge following an investigation into missing funds from a county-administered program. Myrum, who resigned from his position in March, was accused of misapplying less than $500 in entrusted property.

A felony theft charge was dropped as part of a plea deal. Myrum received a 30-day suspended jail sentence and will serve one year of unsupervised probation. He has also been ordered to pay restitution, fines, and fees. Additionally, he must write letters of apology to Ramsey County Sheriff Bryan Lang and State BCI Agent Steve Gilpin within 30 days.
