Bemidji – Susan Eck, 68, of Bemidji, died Wednesday, September 4, 2024, surrounded by family.
Susan was born November 14, 1955, in Thief River Falls, to Herbert and Marion (Erickson) Vraa. She grew up and lived in Goodridge, where she was part of the rhythms of a dairy farm family. She was baptized and confirmed at Ekelund Lutheran Church. She graduated from Goodridge High School in 1974. She later moved to Bemidji and attended Bemidji State University.
In August of 1990, she married Butch Eck in Bemidji. In 1992 Susan and Butch welcomed Jesse Joel to the world. From that moment on Susan made a commitment to be the best mother she could possibly be.
Susan worked as an elementary teacher. She adored her three grandchildren, had a passion for photography, was an avid gardener and enjoyed reading. She was known for some of the best homemade soup and glorified rice around!
Susan was an active member of Bemidji Covenant Church. Susan was loved by her grandchildren and was known for her love for family, friends, and colleagues. Susan had a passion for learning, teaching and sharing her faith with the children under her teaching care.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, Selmer and Bertha Erickson, Gilbert and Helen Vraa.
Grateful to have shared her life are her son, Jesse (Taylor) Eck of Bemidji; grandchildren, Dawson, Emma and Hadley; siblings, Gary (Valerie) Vraa, David Vraa, Donald (Berny) Vraa, Richard Vraa, and Marilyn (Robert) Vraa; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Bemidji Covenant Church. Visitation will be 9–10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Bemidji Covenant Church, Bemidji. The interment will be in Rosendahl Cemetery, Goodridge.
