Bemidji Man Charged in Alleged Stool Assault
BEMIDJI, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) — Edward Allen Davis faces a felony domestic assault charge after an alleged July 19 incident in Bemidji.
The complaint says police responded to a residence on Mississippi Avenue Northwest around 5:27 p.m.
Investigators learned Davis had allegedly assaulted his girlfriend, identified in court records as K.G.
Stool Allegedly Thrown During Assault
The complaint says Davis pushed K.G. to the ground during the incident.
Prosecutors also allege Davis threw a stool at her.
The stool reportedly struck K.G. and caused a visible injury to her leg.
A witness saw part of the alleged assault, according to the complaint.
Davis is charged with felony domestic assault in Beltrami County District Court.
Prosecutors allege the assault involved causing fear of immediate bodily harm or death.

Prior Convictions Cited in Complaint
The felony charge also relies on prior qualified domestic violence-related convictions, according to the complaint.
The filing lists several earlier convictions from Minnesota courts.
Those include domestic assault convictions entered in 2023 and 2024.
The complaint also lists a 2017 order-for-protection violation.
It lists a 2023 felony conviction for violating a no-contact order.
Prosecutors cited those prior cases while seeking the enhanced felony charge.
The complaint also lists several unrelated convictions from earlier years.
Those include DWI, check forgery, fleeing police, drug possession, and a firearms offense.
Felony Charge Carries Possible Prison Time
The current charge falls under Minnesota Statute 609.2242.
That law allows felony prosecution when required prior domestic violence-related convictions are present.
The statute provides a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
It also allows a fine of up to $10,000, or both.
The criminal complaint represents the state’s allegations against Davis.
It does not mean Davis has been convicted of the new charge.
Davis is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
