Halstad Stolen SUV Found Submerged in Red River
Halstad (trfnews.i234.me) — A vehicle reported stolen in 2023 has been recovered from the Red River near Halstad.
A kayaker spotted the submerged vehicle near the Halstad landing on Friday, August 14.
The Norman County Sheriff’s Office received the report at about 1 p.m.
Deputies then used a boat to locate the vehicle in the river.
SUV Found Near Halstad Landing
Authorities identified the vehicle as a 2009 Honda Pilot.
The SUV was completely underwater about 100 yards from the Halstad landing.
Officials estimated the vehicle was four to six inches below the water’s surface.
The location required deputies to approach the vehicle by boat before recovery work could begin.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources also responded to assist with the investigation.
Valley Water Rescue joined authorities at the scene and helped remove the vehicle.

Vehicle Had Been Reported Stolen
Investigators checked the vehicle after it was removed from the river.
They determined the Honda had been reported stolen sometime in 2023.
Authorities believe the SUV entered the Red River from the Halstad landing.
The vehicle apparently drifted a short distance before sinking beneath the surface.
Officials did not report when the vehicle entered the river.
They also did not identify who had possession of the Honda before it entered the water.
No arrest or suspect was announced in connection with the recovery.

Investigators searched the vehicle and the surrounding area after the recovery.
No additional evidence was found inside or around the Honda, according to authorities.
No injuries were reported in connection with the discovery or recovery operation.
The incident remains notable because the vehicle had been missing for several years.
The kayaker’s discovery ultimately led authorities to the submerged SUV.
