Ada 120 MPH Chase Leads to Felony Charge

Ada (trfnews.i234.me) — A Twin Valley man faces seven charges after an alleged high-speed pursuit through Ada on July 12.

Court records identify the defendant as Mitchell Wayne Daniels Jr.

He is charged in Norman County District Court.

Pursuit Reached 120 MPH

The complaint says a deputy responded to a possible domestic incident north of Ada.

The deputy reportedly saw a man pulling a woman from a silver Chevrolet Impala.

The deputy turned around and activated emergency lights.

The Impala then sped south on Highway 9, according to the complaint.

Daniels allegedly continued through Ada and ignored a four-way stop at Highways 9 and 200.

Speeds reached about 100 mph south of Ada, where the posted limit was 60 mph.

The complaint says Daniels briefly pulled over before driving away again.

The vehicle later reached 120 mph.

Daniels also allegedly threw a swimming tube from the vehicle.

The complaint says he later extended his arm from the window and made an obscene gesture.

Near the county line, the vehicle entered the gravel shoulder and lost control.

It crossed into the opposite ditch, and the airbags deployed.

The vehicle returned to the roadway.

Officers then used a pursuit maneuver and blocked the vehicle from continuing.

The complaint says Daniels refused repeated orders to leave the vehicle.

He was warned that a Taser could be used.

Officers then used a Taser after he allegedly continued refusing commands.

A deputy reported that Daniels slurred his words and mumbled after the arrest.

Investigators also reported finding a liquor bottle on the passenger-side floorboard.

Emergency medical workers took Daniels to a hospital.

Law enforcement later obtained a warrant for a blood or urine sample.

The complaint says Daniels refused both tests after being told refusal was a crime.

After the hospital cleared him, Daniels allegedly resisted efforts to transport him to jail.

Four officers restrained him and applied leg shackles, according to the complaint.

He also faces second-degree DWI test refusal, which is a gross misdemeanor.

Other charges include reckless driving and two gross misdemeanor obstruction counts.

Minnesota’s obstruction statute covers resisting or interfering with officers performing official duties.

Daniels also faces a stop-sign violation and a speeding charge.

The complaint cites a qualifying Texas driving conviction within the past ten years.

Prosecutors list that prior case as an aggravating factor for the DWI refusal charge.

The complaint contains allegations and is not a finding of guilt.

Daniels is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
