Naytahwaush Man Faces 6 Felonies After Pet Killings
NAYTAHWAUSH (trfnews.i234.me) — A Naytahwaush man faces six felony charges after an alleged violent incident involving a woman and three pets.
Lyman Ray Weaver, 44, was charged Monday in Mahnomen County District Court.
The charges include second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and felony threats of violence.
He also faces three felony animal torture counts and felony failure to appear.
Threats Reported Inside Home
A criminal complaint filed August 3 describes the incident reported one day earlier.
A Mahnomen County sheriff’s deputy responded to a Naytahwaush home after a disturbance was reported.
The woman told authorities Weaver arrived at the home that morning while intoxicated.
She said Weaver had an active warrant and was not supposed to be there.
The complaint states Weaver asked the woman to drive him to get more alcohol.
She refused the request.
Authorities allege Weaver then threatened to stab her.
The woman said Weaver pushed her outside and locked the door behind her.
She also reported Weaver threatened to kill her animals.
The woman told authorities she could hear animals in distress from outside the home.
She later found a kitten dead in the yard, according to the complaint.
She then entered the home and reported seeing Weaver stabbing one of her dogs.
Two Pets Died
Authorities said they found a dead kitten outside the residence.
Inside, they found a black dog with stab wounds that was still alive.
A brown and white pit bull also appeared to have died from several stab wounds.
The injured black dog was later euthanized at the woman’s request.
Authorities also reported finding large amounts of blood inside the residence.
Suspect Found in Waubun
Weaver was later located in a camper on his mother’s property in Waubun.
Authorities said he initially refused to leave the camper.
He was eventually taken into custody.
The complaint says Weaver had an active warrant when the incident occurred.
That warrant involved felony domestic assault and third-degree assault allegations.
It followed his failure to appear for a July 14 hearing, according to the complaint.
The complaint also lists several prior felony convictions.
Those convictions include second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and felony domestic assault.
Other listed convictions include escape and introducing contraband into a correctional facility.
Charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
Weaver is presumed innocent unless proven guilty through the court process.
