Munich Burnout Crash Injures Apartment Resident

Munich (trfnews.i234.me) — A Devils Lake man faces several felony charges after a Friday night crash.

Police say the car struck an occupied apartment building during burnouts on Main Street. A resident inside suffered a leg injury.

Car Crashes Into Occupied Building

Cory James Hauck, 51, of Devils Lake, was arrested after the July 24, 2026, crash.

The incident happened around 10:44 p.m. at 509 Main Street in Munich.

A responding deputy found a red Chevrolet Camaro lodged inside the apartment building.

Hauck said he had been doing burnouts before losing control, according to a court affidavit.

The Camaro first struck an empty parked vehicle. It then crashed through part of the apartment building.

Several people were inside the apartment during the impact. One resident suffered a cut on his leg.

The injured man could not walk without help. An ambulance transported him to a hospital for treatment.

The affidavit did not provide more information about his condition.

Hauck told authorities he had consumed five beers before the crash.

A roadside screening test showed a reported alcohol level of 0.13.

A later chemical test at the sheriff’s office showed a reported level of 0.11.

Both test results were included in the court affidavit.

Authorities also reported signs of impairment during field sobriety testing.

Hauck allegedly said several times that he expected to go to jail.

Witnesses said Hauck tried to leave after the crash. They also reported another attempted move.

They said he tried backing the Camaro out of the building before authorities arrived.

Hauck faces a Class B felony charge of criminal vehicular injury.

He also faces two Class C felony charges.

Those charges include fourth-or-subsequent DUI and reckless endangerment with extreme indifference.

Several misdemeanor charges were also filed in connection with the incident.

Authorities said Hauck was driving with a revoked North Dakota license.

The Camaro was unregistered and displayed unlawful license plates.

Hauck allegedly told authorities the vehicle had never been registered. He described the Camaro as a race car.

Court records list three earlier DUI convictions.

Those cases were recorded in June 2013, January 2017, and October 2024.

The new case was listed as a fourth DUI offense within 15 years.

The affidavit said Hauck’s first court appearance was scheduled for Monday, July 27, 2026.
