Waubun Man Gets 6 Years for Fatal Crash
BECKER COUNTY (trfnews.i234.me) — A rural Waubun man received six years in prison after a deadly motorcycle crash near Toad Lake.
Jacob Jerome Riggle, 27, was sentenced in Becker County District Court on one felony count. The charge was criminal vehicular homicide involving alcohol.
A second criminal vehicular homicide count was dismissed under a plea agreement.
Crash Near Toad Lake
The crash happened around 8:20 p.m. on May 26, 2025. Deputies responded near County Highway 56 and County Road 117 in Toad Lake Township.
Asia Monique Bevins, 23, of Ogema, was a passenger on the motorcycle. Court records said she was found in a swamp near the crash scene.
Bevins was not alert and appeared to be vomiting. She suffered life-threatening injuries.
A medical helicopter took Bevins to Sanford Medical Center Fargo. Authorities learned on June 13, 2025, that she had died.
Alcohol Test Reported
Court records said Riggle smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes. He told investigators he drank three beers and two shots earlier.
A preliminary breath test raised concerns about how he used the testing straw. A manual reading later showed a 0.138% alcohol concentration.
Minnesota law sets the standard driving limit at 0.08%. A blood sample was also collected for laboratory testing.
The sample was sent to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The agency provides forensic testing for criminal investigations across Minnesota.
Sentence Includes Prison Time
On July 20, a Becker County judge sentenced Riggle to six years in prison. He received credit for 80 days already served in jail.
The sentence calls for Riggle to serve his prison term in St. Cloud. He was also ordered to pay a $50 fine.
Court fees added another $85. The money may be taken from earnings he receives while in prison.
The criminal complaint noted a prior DWI conviction from 2020. It also listed pending drug possession and DWI charges in Becker County.
Pending charges are allegations and do not prove guilt. Those cases remain separate from this conviction.
