Bemidji Man Charged After Domestic Assault Case

Beltrami County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Bemidji man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after prosecutors say he threatened violence and assaulted his girlfriend during an early morning incident in June.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Beltrami County District Court, Preston Lee Beaulieu, 40, of Bemidji, has been charged with one felony count of Threats of Violence and one misdemeanor count of Domestic Assault. The charges stem from an incident reported on June 23, 2026.

911 Call Led Officers to Scene

Court documents state officers responded around 2:25 a.m. after a woman called 911. Dispatchers reportedly heard screaming but could not gather details before the call ended.

When officers arrived near a residence on Washington Avenue South, they followed the sound of screaming. Investigators say they found Beaulieu outside the residence. Court records allege he appeared intoxicated and was throwing an object at a nearby home.

According to the complaint, Beaulieu told officers his girlfriend had “gone nuts” after he returned home from a bar.

Victim Reported Assault

The complaint states the woman told investigators Beaulieu woke her around 2:00 a.m. and made unwanted sexual demands. She said she refused and alleged he climbed on top of her and assaulted her.

The woman told investigators she managed to record part of the encounter on her cellphone before running from the residence. According to court documents, she sought help from neighbors. Prosecutors allege Beaulieu caught up to her outside and pushed her to the ground.

Investigators reported observing cuts and abrasions that they said were consistent with her account.

Recorded Audio Cited

The complaint states investigators reviewed audio recorded on the victim’s cellphone. Court documents allege the recording captured sexual remarks, sounds of a struggle, and a statement in which Beaulieu allegedly said he could kill someone with his bare hands.

Based on that evidence, prosecutors filed a felony charge of Threats of Violence and a misdemeanor domestic assault charge.

Case Status

Beaulieu remains charged in Beltrami County District Court. The criminal complaint contains allegations that have not been proven in court. Like all defendants, he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
