Bemidji Man Charged in Stolen Van Case

Bemidji, MN (trfnews.i234.me) — A Bemidji man is facing a felony charge after prosecutors say he drove a stolen work van without the owner’s permission.

Davin Lee Jones-Colgan, 18, of Bemidji, has been charged in Beltrami County District Court with theft of a motor vehicle without owner consent.

The charge stems from an incident involving a white Ram ProMaster 2500 cargo van. The van was reported stolen from a Bemidji business.

Stolen Van Reported Missing

According to the criminal complaint, the van was last seen on June 27, 2026, at about 11 p.m.

The vehicle was parked behind a business on Anne Street NW in Bemidji.

The owner reported the van missing on June 29. The owner also reported that about $600 in cash and a debit card were inside the vehicle.

Investigators reviewed camera footage that showed the van traveling through Bemidji on June 28.

The complaint states the vehicle was later located near Decker Hall at Bemidji State University.

The van was identified by its license plate and vehicle information.

The vehicle was locked and appeared to be empty when it was found.

After the owner arrived with keys, investigators searched the van.

Several pieces of luggage were found inside. The owner said the items did not belong to her.

One bag had a sticker with the name Davin Jones-Colgan.

The complaint states the missing cash and debit card were also found inside the van and returned to the owner.

Jones-Colgan Describes How He Got Van

Investigators contacted Jones-Colgan at a Bemidji State University dorm.

According to the complaint, Jones-Colgan said he received information that the van was available.

He said he was told the keys were inside the vehicle.

Jones-Colgan reportedly admitted he drove the van to the BSU campus and another residence before returning.

He also stated that the luggage inside the van belonged to him.

The complaint states Jones-Colgan admitted he was the only person who drove the van.

During an interview with investigators, Jones-Colgan said he did not believe the person who directed him to the van owned it.

He allegedly said he assumed someone else owned the vehicle.

Felony Charge Filed

Jones-Colgan is charged with theft of a motor vehicle without owner consent.

The offense is a felony under Minnesota law.

The maximum possible penalty listed in the complaint is up to five years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both.

Court records show the case was filed in Beltrami County District Court.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
