Moorhead Man Charged in Alleged Strangulation Case
Moorhead, MN (trfnews.i234.me) — A Moorhead man is facing criminal charges after authorities say a family dispute turned into an alleged physical assault.
Dustin Wayne Nass, 42, of Moorhead, has been charged in Clay County District Court with domestic assault and domestic assault by strangulation.
The case was filed in Minnesota’s 7th Judicial District Court. Court records show the charges stem from an incident reported on July 3, 2026.
Charges Filed in Clay County Court
Nass faces one misdemeanor count of domestic assault. The charge alleges he committed an act intended to cause fear of immediate bodily harm or death.
He also faces a felony charge of domestic assault by strangulation. That charge alleges he restricted the normal breathing or blood circulation of another person.
According to court documents, the maximum penalty for the felony charge could include up to three years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.

Alleged Incident in Moorhead
According to the criminal complaint, authorities responded to a reported assault at a Moorhead home.
Investigators spoke with a 16-year-old boy who reported an incident involving his stepfather, Dustin Nass.
The complaint states that a verbal argument became physical. Authorities allege Nass shoved the juvenile in the chest with both hands.
The complaint also alleges Nass slapped the juvenile in the face during the confrontation.
The juvenile reportedly fought back before Nass allegedly placed him in a chokehold.
The juvenile told authorities that his breathing became restricted. He reported feeling like he might lose consciousness.
Evidence Cited by Investigators
The complaint states authorities observed redness on the juvenile’s neck after the incident.
Investigators also reported seeing petechia near the juvenile’s eye. Court documents state this can be linked to broken blood vessels.
The complaint says video footage of the incident supports the juvenile’s account.
All charges are allegations. Nass is considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
