Mahnomen Man Charged After Traffic Stop
Mahnomen (trfnews.i234.me) — A Mahnomen man faces a gross misdemeanor charge following a May traffic stop.
Duane Edward Sayers, 49, has been charged with driving after cancellation as inimical to public safety.
The charge was filed in Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District Court in Mahnomen County.
The case is listed under court file number 44-CR-26-317.
Vehicle Stopped on Jefferson Avenue
According to the criminal complaint, the traffic stop happened around 10:21 p.m. on May 28, 2026.
A law enforcement officer was patrolling in Mahnomen when a vehicle was seen traveling north.
The vehicle was traveling on Jefferson Avenue and reportedly had a headlight that was not working.
The officer stopped the vehicle and identified Sayers as the driver.
A records check then showed that Sayers’ Minnesota driving privileges were canceled.
License Listed as Canceled for Public Safety
Court records describe Sayers’ license status as canceled as inimical to public safety.
That status is often shortened to “IPS” in Minnesota driving records.
Prosecutors allege Sayers knew, or reasonably should have known, about the cancellation.
The complaint states he was operating the vehicle on a public street in Mahnomen.
Driving after an IPS cancellation is a gross misdemeanor under Minnesota Statute 171.24.
A conviction may carry up to 364 days in jail.
The maximum fine listed in the complaint is $3,000.
Charge Remains an Allegation
The complaint is based on a statement of probable cause submitted to the court.
Sayers has been issued a summons in connection with the case.
The filing does not show that Sayers has been convicted of the charge.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
