Wilton Traffic Stop Leads to DWI, Drug Charges

WILTON, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — A Bagley man faces three gross misdemeanor charges after a June traffic stop in Beltrami County.

Tylor Scott McPhee, 35, is charged in Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District Court. The case was filed under court number 04-CR-26-1441.

The charges include third-degree DWI test refusal and fifth-degree drug possession. McPhee also faces a charge of driving after license cancellation.

Each charge carries a possible sentence of up to 364 days in jail. Each also carries a possible $3,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, the incident happened on June 23, 2026.

A law enforcement officer saw a man pumping gas at Wilton Petroleum. The man was beside a dark blue Chevrolet crossover.

The officer checked the vehicle’s registration information. Investigators then identified the driver as McPhee.

The complaint states McPhee’s driving privileges had been canceled. The cancellation classified him as inimical to public safety.

McPhee allegedly began driving the vehicle after leaving the gas pump. The officer then conducted a traffic stop.

McPhee reportedly said he was filling the vehicle for a woman who planned to drive it.

The complaint says the officer entered the vehicle to retrieve McPhee’s phone.

Inside, the officer allegedly saw needles and torch-style lighters. A plastic bag was also partly visible beneath a seat.

The bag contained a white crystal-like substance, according to the complaint. A field test reportedly indicated methamphetamine.

McPhee later agreed to complete field sobriety tests. The officer reported seeing signs of possible drug impairment.

During a search, the officer allegedly found another small bag. That bag contained white residue that also tested positive for methamphetamine.

McPhee was taken to the Beltrami County Jail after his arrest.

Authorities obtained a warrant for a blood or urine sample. The complaint states that McPhee was shown the signed warrant.

He was also told that refusing the test was a crime. McPhee allegedly refused to provide either sample.

The charges remain allegations. McPhee is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
