ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – On Saturday afternoon, July 27, 2024, an ATV accident in Balkan Township, St. Louis County, resulted in one fatality and one injury. The incident occurred around 3:40 p.m. on a trail between Chisholm and Buhl.
The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office reported that the side-by-side ATV was found upright but appeared to have rolled over based on roof damage. Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle. Neither was wearing a helmet or seatbelt at the time of the accident.
The passenger, 31-year-old Kevin Joseph Jamnick from Hibbing, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, 29-year-old Casey Jerald Daniels from Chisholm, was transported to University Medical Center Mesabi–Fairview in Hibbing, treated for injuries, and subsequently released.
The cause of the accident is under investigation, with speed, alcohol, and lack of safety restraints being considered factors. The investigation involves the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office and the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office. The Chisholm Police Department, Chisholm Ambulance, Chisholm Fire Department, St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office Rescue Squad, and Lifelink Air Ambulance assisted at the scene.
