Thief River Falls – Lana Joy Nelson, 73, of Thief River Falls, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2026, in Fargo, surrounded by the love of her family and friends.
Lana Joy Nelson was born on September 9, 1952, in Pennington County, to Omer Aldean Sorenson and June Violet (Windahl) Sorenson. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Viking. She was raised in the Viking/Newfolden area and graduated from Newfolden High School in 1970.
On her journey through life, Lana built a career through various occupations, including retail, working at the local school, and at Digi-Key. She was known for her strong work ethic, caring nature, and the kindness she shared with those around her.
Lana found great joy in life’s simple pleasures and special adventures. She loved attending concerts, traveling, sewing, creating ceramics, visiting casinos, and, most importantly, spending time with her family and loved ones. Her warmth, laughter, and caring spirit touched many lives and created lasting memories for all who knew her.
Her Christian faith was an important part of her life.
Lana is survived by her loving husband, James Nelson; son, Troy Nelson; daughters, Misty Nelson and Kim (Joe Clark) Nelson; and three cherished grandchildren, Madison Bodie; Alexus Beito; and Kaylie Beito. She is also survived by her siblings, Gene (Sandy) Lindahl; Jerry (Lori) Sorenson; Jon (Kathy) Sorenson; Jay Sorenson; and Faye (Jim) Bauer; along with many nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives; and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; her parents, Omer and June Sorenson; her brother, Clyde Sorenson; and many aunts; uncles; cousins; and friends.
Lana will be remembered for her loving heart, devotion to her family, and the joy she brought wherever she went. Her memory will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The service to celebrate Lana’s life was held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, with visitation and a Memorial Service at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls. Burial will be at a later date.
