Osage Drug DWI Case: Ponsford Man Charged

Osage, Becker County (trfnews.i234.me) — Matthew Jon Leigland, 32, of Ponsford, has been charged in Becker County District Court with gross misdemeanor drug DWI.

The case was filed in Minnesota’s 7th Judicial District under court file number 03-CR-26-885.

According to the complaint, the charge stems from a traffic stop on January 31, 2026. The stop happened at about 7:02 p.m. in Osage.

Highway 34 Stop In Osage

Court documents allege Leigland was seen driving on Highway 34. A Becker County deputy reported knowing Leigland’s license was revoked.

The deputy confirmed the license status through dispatch. The deputy then pulled in behind Leigland near Osage Bait and Tackle.

Leigland spoke with the deputy outside the vehicle, according to the complaint. He said he was giving a friend a ride to get a drink.

The complaint states Leigland had glossy and bloodshot eyes. It also says his pupils were constricted.

The deputy also reported mushy speech. Leigland allegedly said he only used Suboxone through a prescription.

Drug Test Results Cited

The complaint says field sobriety tests were conducted. Leigland allegedly showed several signs of impairment during those tests.

He was arrested after the stop, according to court records. A search warrant was then obtained for a blood or urine sample.

The complaint says Leigland agreed to provide a urine sample. The sample was sent to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for testing.

Test results later reported amphetamine and methamphetamine in Leigland’s urine sample, according to the complaint.

The charge cites Minnesota Statute 169A.20 and Minnesota Statute 169A.26.

Prior DWI Listed

Prosecutors allege one aggravating factor was present in the case. The complaint lists a prior DWI conviction within the past 10 years.

That conviction was entered on May 29, 2024, in Becker County court file 03-CR-23-1936.

The current charge carries a maximum penalty of 364 days in jail. It also carries a possible $3,000 fine, or both.

Court information can be searched through Minnesota Court Records Online.

A criminal complaint is not a conviction. Leigland is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
