Thief River Falls, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Richard Wayne Reierson Faces Court Verdict for Drug Charges

Richard Wayne Reierson, 35, of Circle Pines was sentenced on Monday, July 8, in Pennington County District Court for possessing over 0.25 grams of methamphetamine. He received a felony charge of fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance.

Reierson’s sentence includes one year and three months, stayed for five years. He was credited for five days already served and placed under supervised probation for five years. Additionally, Reierson must complete a chemical assessment, avoid using or possessing firearms, ammunition, or explosives, and provide a DNA sample. He is also required to pay $210 in fees and fines.

Incident Details

The charge stemmed from a March 16, 2023, investigation into possible drug activity at 929 Reserve Ave., where Reierson was residing with a woman who has not been charged in connection with the case. The Pine to Prairie Drug Task Force conducted a trash pull, discovering burned tinfoil, a small baggie with white residue, and a metal tin with a green, leafy substance. The baggie tested positive for methamphetamine.

A Social Services Department report also indicated that hypodermic needles had been found inside the home. Law enforcement obtained a search warrant for the home and for Reierson and the woman. During the search, multiple items containing drug residue were found throughout the residence, including near a children’s bedroom and bathroom.

Reierson admitted that the confiscated items belonged to him, stating that a baggie found at his feet must have fallen from his curled toes. He acknowledged using meth a day earlier. The woman denied ownership of any items except the marijuana found during the search.

Criminal History

Reierson’s criminal history includes nine court cases from 2009 through 2019, involving charges such as DWI offenses, fourth-degree burglary, and terroristic threats. The two 2019 cases from Pennington County involved threats of violence and fleeing a peace officer by means other than a motor vehicle.

Conclusion

Reierson’s sentence reflects the severity of the charges and his past criminal behavior. His compliance with probation terms and completion of the chemical assessment will be critical in determining his future legal standing.
