Roseau Man Charged In Cancelled License Stop
Alexander Sterling Nichols, 35, of Warroad, is charged in Roseau County District Court.
The case was filed in Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District.
Court records list the court file number as 68-CR-26-293.
Nichols is charged with driving after cancellation as being inimical to public safety.
That charge is listed as a gross misdemeanor.
He is also charged with failing to carry proof of insurance.
A third count accuses him of a seat belt violation.
Traffic Stop Reported In Roseau
According to the complaint, the stop happened on April 30, 2026.
Authorities say the vehicle was seen on Center Street East in Roseau.
The complaint states the driver was preparing to turn onto 11th Avenue Northeast.
An officer reported seeing the driver without a seat belt.
The vehicle later turned onto State Highway 11.
Authorities then conducted a traffic stop.
The driver pulled into the B&B Plumbing & Heating parking area.

Complaint Lists License And Insurance Issues
The complaint says Nichols did not have identification with him.
He allegedly told authorities he did not have a driver’s license.
Authorities also allege he could not provide proof of insurance.
A records check showed a cancelled-IPS Minnesota driving status.
IPS means the cancellation was listed as inimical to public safety.

The insurance charge is tied to Minnesota Statute 169.791.
The seat belt allegation is tied to Minnesota Statute 169.686.
Nichols Taken To Roseau County Jail
Authorities say Nichols was arrested at the scene.
He was then transported to the Roseau County Jail.
The complaint says the vehicle was left parked safely at the scene.
Court documents also state Nichols was on active court conditions.
Those conditions allegedly barred him from driving without a valid license.
They also required current motor vehicle insurance.
The driving after cancellation charge carries a maximum sentence of 364 days in jail.
It also carries a possible fine of up to $3,000.
All charges are allegations at this stage.
Nichols is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
