Detroit Lakes Man Charged After Highway 10 Stop
Becker County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Detroit Lakes man is facing a gross misdemeanor charge after a Highway 10 incident in Becker County.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Becker County District Court, Timothy Lynn Porter, 40, of Detroit Lakes, is charged with driving after cancellation. Court records state the cancellation was listed as inimical to public safety.
The case was filed in Minnesota’s 7th Judicial District. The court file number is 03-CR-26-762.
Highway 10 Incident
The complaint says the incident happened on or about April 4, 2026. Authorities reported seeing a white Honda Civic in the center median on Highway 10.
A white Chevrolet SUV was also stopped on the right shoulder. The complaint says a state trooper spoke with the driver of the SUV and a passenger.
The driver first claimed she had driven both vehicles, according to the complaint. She later told authorities Porter had been driving the Honda Civic.

Porter denied driving the vehicle, according to the complaint. He provided a North Dakota ID card during the stop.
Authorities checked Porter’s driving status. The complaint says his driving status was canceled as inimical to public safety.
Under Minnesota Statute 171.24, driving after cancellation can carry serious penalties. The complaint lists the charge as a gross misdemeanor.
The maximum penalty listed in the complaint is 364 days in jail, a $3,000 fine, or both.
Case Moving Through Court
Porter has been charged by summons in Becker County District Court. A summons means the defendant is ordered to appear in court.
The charge is an allegation at this stage. Porter is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
