Viking (trfnews.i234.me) — A Karlstad man is facing a felony charge after a reported domestic assault in Viking, Minnesota.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Minnesota District Court, Shane Scott Stone, 53, has been charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. Prosecutors say the case stems from an incident on March 24, 2026, in Marshall County.
What The Complaint Says
Court records say the victim told authorities Stone had been dropped off at her home on March 23. She said she did not invite him, but allowed him to stay.
The complaint says Stone became upset the next day after seeing a message on the victim’s phone. The victim told investigators the argument moved outside. She said Stone grabbed her by the hair and pushed her to the ground.
Prosecutors say Stone then picked up a shovel and chased the victim while trying to hit her. The victim said she fell while running away and scraped her knee. She also said Stone threw the shovel at her. She was not hit, but said she was scared.
The charge was filed under Minnesota Statute 609.222. The felony count carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison, a $14,000 fine, or both.

Arrest And Statement
The complaint says Stone left the area after the incident. Authorities later located him in Thief River Falls and took him into custody.
After his arrest, Stone gave a statement to investigators, according to the complaint. He said he and the victim had argued after he saw another man texting her. Stone claimed the victim hit him in the shin with a scooter.
Stone also said he picked up the shovel to defend himself. He denied chasing the victim with it. The complaint says investigators noted a mark on his leg. The mark appeared scabbed over and healing.
Case Status
The complaint also states law enforcement had been called to the residence before for disputes involving the same parties. The victim refused medical treatment after the incident, according to the filing.
As with all criminal cases, the charge is only an accusation. Stone is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
