Clearwater County ( trfnews.i234.me ) – A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Clearwater County on Thursday.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Investigation is now reviewing the case.
Officials say the incident began shortly after noon near the Cenex store on Highway 2 in Bagley.
According to the Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy saw an adult male at the gas pumps and recognized him as someone who had a felony warrant.
The deputy approached the man to arrest him.
A struggle followed, and the man was able to get back into his vehicle and flee east on Highway 2.
Sheriff officials said the man drove into oncoming traffic at times.
More deputies joined the pursuit, along with officers from the Bagley Police Department.
Attempts to block the fleeing vehicle did not work, and the man continued eastbound.
Authorities say the suspect then drove off the highway and into the yard of a residence.
He continued north onto McDougall Avenue Northwest, then into another yard, where law enforcement boxed in the vehicle.
Deputies and officers tried to get the suspect out of the vehicle.
During this effort, the man fired a weapon that launched a flare-type projectile at them.
A deputy responded by firing their service weapon, hitting the suspect.
Life-saving efforts were started right away with help from Bagley Sanford Ambulance personnel,
but the man died at the scene.
One deputy suffered a minor injury.
Body cameras were activated during the incident.
The Minnesota BCA has taken over the investigation, as required under state law for officer-involved shootings.
No names have been released.
