DETROIT LAKES, MN (trfnews.i234.me) — A Detroit Lakes man currently serving a lengthy prison sentence has been charged again with two new felony counts of criminal sexual conduct involving a minor.

According to Becker County District Court records, Shawn Louis Boit, 47, formerly of Detroit Lakes and now incarcerated at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Rush City, faces two new felony charges of criminal sexual conduct.

Boit was originally arrested on December 15, 2023, in connection with a separate case that led to multiple convictions of criminal sexual conduct in Becker County District Court. Following that arrest, a Detroit Lakes police officer was contacted by a woman who expressed concerns that her minor daughter had also been sexually abused by Boit.

Investigators met with the woman on December 18, 2023. She reported behavioral changes in her daughter that began when the child was around 14 years old. The girl later participated in a forensic interview at a children’s advocacy center, where she disclosed repeated sexual abuse by Boit between the ages of 13 and 15 at a residence in Detroit Lakes.

Boit is currently serving a lengthy prison term for his prior convictions and is not eligible for release until December 2043. His first court appearance on the new charges is scheduled for December 9 before Becker County District Court Judge Gretchen D. Thilmony.

The case remains under investigation by the Detroit Lakes Police Department and the Becker County Attorney’s Office.
