Two Arrested After Standoff At Grand Forks Ramada Inn
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (trfnews.i234.me) — Grand Forks Police have confirmed that two people were arrested and a federal agency was involved during a tense standoff at the Ramada Inn on Tuesday afternoon. The incident drew a heavy police presence, including local, state, and federal law enforcement officers.
According to a Lieutenant with the Grand Forks Police Department, the situation began around 12:58 p.m. when the Street Crimes Unit learned that a man with an outstanding arrest warrant was inside a room at the Ramada Inn. Officers obtained a search warrant but were refused entry by the occupants, who then barricaded themselves inside.
Believing that one of the suspects was armed, police activated the Grand Forks Regional SWAT Team and the Crisis Negotiation Team. Before SWAT could make entry, officers managed to contact the suspects by phone and successfully negotiated their surrender.
During the operation, officers used a less-lethal impact munition on the room’s glass door for tactical reasons. No one was injured, though several hotel guests were temporarily evacuated from nearby rooms as a precaution.
Authorities identified the suspects as Jordan Groninger, 35, of Fargo, and Skye Larson, 21, of Grand Forks. Groninger was arrested on a probation revocation warrant out of Ward County for armed robbery, burglary, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Larson was taken into custody for failure to appear and disobedience of a judicial order from Grand Forks County.
The Grand Forks Police Department stated that additional charges may be filed pending the completion of the investigation. The warrant service was described as a collaborative effort between local, state, and federal agencies.
