PENNINGTON COUNTY (trfnews.i234.me) — No one was injured after a deck caught fire outside a mobile home in Thief River Falls on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Thief River Falls Fire Chief Rick Beier, firefighters were dispatched at 4:28 p.m. to a residence at 919 Pleasant Avenue North, where a deck was reported to be on fire.
Beier said a neighbor noticed the flames and quickly alerted the tenant, Abby Stauffer, who was able to safely exit the home before crews arrived. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and remained on the scene for about 30 minutes to ensure the fire was completely out.
Investigators determined the fire started after used cigarettes were discarded in a bucket on the deck, which later ignited. The damage was estimated at approximately $2,500.
Chief Beier noted that the quick actions of the neighbor and the fire department helped prevent the fire from spreading to the home. He also reminded residents to dispose of smoking materials safely and to avoid using containers that can easily ignite.
