Beltrami County ( trfnews.i234.me ) — Bemidji Man Arrested for 2nd-Degree DWI

A Bemidji man is facing a gross misdemeanor DWI charge after allegedly driving the wrong way on Highway 2 early Sunday morning. According to a criminal complaint filed in Beltrami County District Court, David Allan Beaulieu, 39, has been charged with second-degree DWI for operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration of .17, more than twice the legal limit.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the incident happened around 12:30 a.m. on September 21, 2025. A trooper on patrol near Carr Lake Road Northeast in Bemidji saw a black Chevrolet Tahoe driving the wrong direction on Highway 2. The trooper conducted a traffic stop on Division Street near Adams Avenue.

When the trooper approached the vehicle, he noticed the driver, identified as Beaulieu, smelled strongly of alcohol, had slurred speech, and watery eyes. After performing several field sobriety tests, Beaulieu was arrested for suspicion of DWI.

Beaulieu was taken to the Beltrami County Law Enforcement Center, where he provided two breath samples. Test results showed a blood alcohol concentration of .17 at 3:14 a.m., more than twice Minnesota’s legal limit of 0.08. He was then booked into the Beltrami County Jail.

Prior DWI History

The complaint notes Beaulieu had an earlier DWI-related license revocation on March 7, 2025, following an incident on February 28, 2025. Court records also show previous misdemeanor DWI convictions from 2015 and 2008 in Minnesota.

Possible Penalties

Under Minnesota Statute §169A.25, a second-degree DWI is a gross misdemeanor punishable by up to 364 days in jail, a $3,000 fine, or both. Aggravating factors include a high alcohol concentration and prior DWI-related offenses.

The case remains pending in Beltrami County District Court. No future hearing dates were immediately listed.
