Becker Co. Detroit Lakes Man Charged in Scissors Assault

Becker County ( trfnews.i234.me ) – A Detroit Lakes man has been charged in Becker County District Court following a domestic assault involving a pair of scissors. Court records identify the defendant as 25-year-old Roderick James Jager.

According to police reports, on August 30, Detroit Lakes officers responded to a disturbance at a residence. When officers entered the apartment, they encountered Jager, who appeared intoxicated, and located the victim hiding inside a locked bedroom.

Jager admitted to arguing with the victim and said he threw a sweater at him. Officers found the sweater bloodied, along with a four-inch pair of scissors, also stained with blood. The victim told police he felt something sharp digging into his back during the altercation. At first, he thought it was fingernails, but later believed it had been the scissors.

Officers documented slash marks on the victim’s back consistent with an assault involving scissors, along with multiple bite marks. The injuries supported the victim’s account of the incident.

Jager has been charged with felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and misdemeanor domestic assault. He was released without bail on September 3 under strict conditions, including no use of alcohol or drugs, no possession of firearms, and compliance with pretrial supervision.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for November 3 before Becker County District Judge Gretchen D. Thilmony. Minnesota statutes outline penalties for second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.

All charges remain allegations at this stage. Jager is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
