Marshall County (trfnews.i234.me) – A Middle River man has been sentenced to four years in prison for sexually assaulting a minor.

According to court records, 51-year-old Calvin John Rybakowski was convicted of felony third-degree criminal sexual conduct. He was sentenced on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, to four years in the Minnesota Correctional Facility at St. Cloud. Upon release, he will be on conditional release for 10 years, required to register as a predatory offender, and must provide a DNA sample.

Rybakowski was originally charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct after authorities received reports that he assaulted an 8-year-old girl. According to the probable cause statement, the girl disclosed that the abuse had occurred over a span of years. When questioned about the incident, Rybakowski reportedly told investigators he had smoked laced marijuana that night and could not remember what happened. He surrendered his drugs to authorities, saying he did not want them if they led him to “do things like touching kids.”

The criminal complaint was filed in September 2024. At sentencing, Rybakowski received credit for 351 days already served in custody.

In a separate case also filed in September 2024, Rybakowski faced similar allegations involving another girl. That case was later dismissed due to the statute of limitations. The reported incidents in that matter dated back to 2010, 2012, and 2014.

The Minnesota Department of Corrections notes that predatory offender registration is a standard requirement in cases involving sexual offenses against children. More information is available at the Minnesota DOC website.
